tv at its finest

wowowee vs joey de leon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHiAn3B1NAo

i've seen the videos of wowowee "scam" and joey de leon's side on the issue. now we are talking variety show... too much variety, too much for an entertainment, pinoy style. what the heck. that's moro-moro, a show within the show.

if you guys have seen the movie, the quiz show, starring john turturro, you might think there's something really going on in philippine gameshows. i worked with eat bulaga for one month, so far, i didn't encounter hoax in the show. i even watch mtb (then), but, neither was there a scenario of "dayaan." those were way before. i am not aware of what's going on thesedays. could be true because of the ratings.

you guys better watch it, that i tell you the plot of the movie. it is a great film. beautiful direction, great cinematography, astounding actors.

well, it's a show within a show. i dunno if that's what's going on, or if there were manipulation to of the program to i guess increase ratings.

who's at the losing end? basically, the people are! entertainment is our consolation, but we never win in the battle of ratings. people are limited to countering other network's aces. but as you can see, same format. philippine entertainment is commercial. very few venture into creative movie making.

the japanese... they got bored with the usual variety shows, yet they came up with new ideas and concept that all japanese can relate. they mixed entertainment with their historical and current culture. then takeshi's castle was born in the early 90's.

check out the talkshows... same same. since the late giovanni calvo's reign in katok mga misis, late morning talkshow format is the same. they get career-fading celebrities to guest in their show, and concepts like dating games, indoor games like putukan ng lobo, relays, compatibility quiz, etc. both gma and abs-cbn does these formats.

in my opinion, they are afrain to risk innovation because of ratings. in philippine tv, that's the name of the game. i like news and public affairs/current affairs better. informative, creative and innovative. that's why i love iwitness, correspondents, reporter's notebook, the probe team, etc. documentaries. genius are these people. they never get tired on exploring and learning.

Another epic battle will unfold as rivals San Beda and Letran will once again face each other for the second time this season. This time they are bringing along their juniors counterpart with them. It will be a San Beda-Letran day this coming august 31(Friday) as Red Cubs and Squires will battle as well in the first game.

It was clear that the first round belongs to the squad from Intramurous both in juniors and seniors affair. Now is the time for the fabled Red Lions to turn the favor which they are looking forward since that dramatic 1point loss to Letran. We all know what is at stake every time this two squad meet but there’s more to that this time. Both teams want to secure a twice to beat edge going into the Final Four. A loss will put that to jeopardy since JRU is just around the corner.

Pro-bound Yousif Aljamal will try to lead the pride against the Knights and John Paul Escobal will continue where he left off in their last meeting.

Even with the First round win against San Beda, it will not be easy for the knights to repeat the feat they did last July 25. RJ Jazul will again be the man to watch out for the knights with improved Rey Guevarra and all around player Dino Daa.

Meanwhile the story is not so different in the Juniors division. Both the Red Cubs and the Squires are trying to secure a twice to beat advantage. Both teams are in a scuffle battle in the standings together with defending juniors champs Staglets.

Nico Salva will be the man in the middle for the San Beda Red Cubs and star Point Guard LA Revilla will orchestrate the plays for legendary Red Cubs coach Ato Badolato. Standing on their way will be Squires triumvirate of siblings Kelvin and Kristoffer Alas with John Noble.

Note: San Beda Team Captain Aljamal is still tentative for August 31 game due to the controversial disqualification handed down on him by NCAA ManCom. San Beda and NCAA ManCom is set to settle the issue through court battle.

--------------------------------------> my comments

why does letran and san beda keeps on pushing rivalry? are these two schools envious of the uaap's lasalle-ateneo clashes, that's why they want to create their own version of it in the ncaa? i think it's cheap and pathetic. ateneo at lasalle deserve every battle they make. that after each game, sportsmanship is displayed. in the ncaa, i seldom see a passionate display of sportsmanship.

my cousin borgy hermida plays point guard for the san beda red lions. i am an alumnus of letran. during my first two years as a knight, my so called alma mater collected two championship trophies. that was magnificent. letran put an end to the san sebastian stags 5 year regime at the top rank of the ncaa sr. men's basketball in 1998. the following year, letran, as underdogs, climbed and emerged as champions for the second time in a row. after that 1999 campaign, i lost my interest in watching a live game.

in game two of the 1999 ncaa finals, i saw flying chairs, coins, plastic bottles, even softdrink bottles, notebooks, etc., as jose rizal college (then, now university) fans protested the ref's misjudgment on letran's jp prior elbowing john valena of jrc. no offensive foul was called as prior crossed the half court... valena countered on prior, and then the mob was uncontrollable. that scene was bad. there were women, and children inside the arena, and they were defenseless from flying objects. oh boy... heavy crowd happens a lot in the ncaa games. haven't hear a lot from the uaap, since, the ateneo-ust game in 2002(03?).

anyway, ncaa for me is pride. the legacy it aims to pass through generations is rich. i take pride with my school on it's quest to get 17... the league's most number, followed by ateneo with, i guess, 14.

We have no business whether Letran or JRU gets the twice to beat advantage. We will beat either of them in the Finals anyway. Let's just do what we us/s/ually do... Let's show the Knights what the real Red Lions Basketball is all about this time.

Animo San Beda! Beat Letran!

sayang. hindi kasi ako pex user... pero answering your comment in that forum, "Let's show the Knights the real Red Lions Basketball is all about this time," beda basketball is unique, but, you must not fear the knights. don't prove us you're better... because in the minds of the many, beda will always be tulo laway that's what is all about

about philippine stuff on the arts

there are no perfect job here in the country. or even abroad. i worked with the best companies in the country. abscbn, gma, chikka, summit, yehey, cbcp, etc. right now i am with a unilab-owned company. i never had a job i can claim as "my own." so, i have to live with it. if i am only a writer, i could have written my own version of harry potter or lord of the rings. that would be nice. but, the problem here in the philippines, less people appreciate filipino artiste. foreign writers, or painters are much more patronized.

ask people who f. sionil jose is. ask the grade school, up to sophomore high school kids if they know who the late nvm gonzales is or who is liwayway bautista. yep, maybe they saw their names while skimming the bookstores looking for lotr's or hp's. they'd also watch movies in cinemas rather than watch plays, unless required by schools. most of the youth thesedays are driven to arts as a pre-requisite to something.

haha! to contradict my entry: i critize most of the kids for my guilt. haha! i don't know nvm gonzales. haven't red any of his. i've checked out f. sionil jose's the mass, but wasn't able to finish it. i understood liwayway bautista's dekada 70 when i saw chito rono's presentation on film. i read hp, and i am done with lotr. i'd rather read the alchemist than noli me tangere because i am pissed with the educational system to require it in the high school curriculum.

i love seeing theatrical plays, but not on the top of my list. best i've seen so far was once on this island, and rama at sita.

my proud pinoy side would be, music. apo hiking, eraserheads - sila ang mga bossing.

opinion... these thoughts are my opinion. this blog is not really about facts.
